Yeah, I actually considered S3 for storage, but it's just too slow for general traffic. Even if it was fast enough, to utilize it in the way I'd like I'd need to write some kind of database to sit in front of it to reference the files through mod_rewrite. This would facilitate "renaming" the files or being able to "move" them around in virtual directories. S3 just isn't well suited for many small files and their speeds are also extremely slow outside the US. One great example is Smugmug, they moved to S3 and quickly realized it was too slow for general traffic, but is great for backups or storing the original versions of uploaded photos. They just keep the small sizes and thumbnails on their servers, then if someone requests the originals, they pull them from S3. S3 would be great for off-site backups... But it's cheaper to go buy a few 1TB harddrives and set them up as RAID or even just put mirrored drives in a safe-deposit box every few months, and then rotate the other drive back out to hold the next month's backup.

By the way, Rackspace has cloud-storage as well, and it's cheaper than Amazon.

By the way, I figured you'd get a kick out of this: [link]node.gordo4.com/snaps/0006.png[/link]

Looks nice -- if I ever need a VPS that's probably where I'll go. Thanks for the tip.

Right now I just use S3 for storage. It's really cheap if you don't need to store much, although it looks like it would be around the $20 mark (possibly more) if you had 200 GB there.

I have already shared with you an older CMS that was not object oriented; which is perfect for using to learn more about PHP/MySQL. It should have been more than enough to get you started on the right track to building your own applications. This is also why I release code snippets, etc...

If you need help with certain aspects, and show that you at least understand basic PHP and have made an attempt, then I will help you. I will not release any of the new object-oriented code-base. I'm sorry, but it's part of a web-app service that I am developing for my business and will not be shared with the public.

If you are trying to do something object-oriented, the following resources will be useful for almost every web-app you could possibly create:
Database: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.database.mdb2.php[/link]
Authentication: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.authentication.auth.php[/link]
Date/Time: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.datetime.date.php[/link]
Pagination: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.html.pager.php[/link]
Form Input: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.html.html-quickform.php[/link]
Validation: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.validate.validate.php[/link]
Templates: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.html.html-template-flexy.php[/link]
Admin Backend: [link]pear.php.net/manual/en/package.structures.structures-datagrid.php[/link]

For an example of a User Management System:
I am writing to ask if I may have a copy of the CMS system you currently have in place of which I believe is called Linews, to use on my website, If allowed I will have a link in the sidebar, linking back to your website and a link at the bottom of the page going along the lines of powered by Linews copyright Linuxinit.
