  • Zoned Out

Posted on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 07:57:17 PM.

I was laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking, pondering, zoned out, ya know...

    **edit:
I'm very curious about something. How do these two images make you feel?

To me, at first glance, the first one seemed to make me feel cautious and the second one was dark but pleasant......however, those feelings were only initial impressions. After comparing the two, my feelings about them reversed.

The first one makes me feel like I'm waiting for something that won't or has not yet come. That I'm discontent with the daylight, waiting for it to wear off. The second brings a wave of calm. Like I have not waited in vain.

    Hmmm... interesting.

First one, I feel kind of tense and nervous.
Second one, I can't explain it - kind of calm or even spacey. My feelings would change if the images were lined up, for lack of a better description.

the one at top feels like the end of time, scary, very afraid, apocalypse.
the one at bottom is serene. dreamy.

The first one made me feel kind of scared/panicked. It looked to me like fire in a courtyard. The second one made me feel more serene, although it still seemed a little ominous, I think because the clouds remind me of smoke. Also, I feel like my perception of the second image was directly related to my feelings on having seen the first one. Maybe if I saw the second one first, or on its own, the results would've been different?

agree with elix that if i'd seen the two at different times, i'd perhaps feel different. its basically one image, top & bottom.

the top one very clearly has a taoist yin/yang symbol in it- the bottom one is less visible. perhaps this comparison is a yin/yang kind of thing? and perhaps we should say how both images make us feel as one?

the point of this experiment is perception... i'm going to do this again with other people, but i'm going to flip it the other way. i'm also going to do it two more times with two more sets of people, but it's going to be oriented horizontally instead of vertically.

also, both images are the same thing, just coloured differently. when they are placed horizontally, and if you look "past" them or "through" them, or if you cross your eyes while looking at them, they will merge into one. This will be the final experiment, which I'm going to do with all 4 groups of people. the results will then be compiled into a table and posted online.

So the first photo makes me feel like I am dying or about to die in a not so peaceful way. numba two makes me feel like it's over and Im dead now.. the peace of death... I don't know if that's what you're looking for but there it is now.

The red and orange photo makes me feel in a dark, fierce, tumultuous, nervous place.
The blue photo makes me feel as if in am in a peaceful, carefree space.

    top: disoriented, drunk, possibly sick.
bottom: introspective, daydreaming, waiting for change.

I'll have to try that "looking through" thing once I have some my big monitor back.
